The Port Harcourt Chapter of the Alumni of the University of Calabar on December 9, 2022, conferred an award of Excellent Service on Dr. Benson Uwheru, the MD/CEO of the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution (PHED) Plc.
Barrister John Uche, President of the Port Harcourt Chapter, disclosed that the award is in recognition and appreciation of Dr. Uwheru’s excellent and impactful leadership given the overwhelming testimonies from both Staff and Customers of the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Plc.
According to Barrister Uche, Dr. Benson’s leadership style has not gone unnoticed. He noted that he is deserving of the award for creating a conducive atmosphere and workplace culture that enable employees to work seamlessly.
He revealed that the Alumni is a group of intellectuals from the academia who have identified the MD/CEO as an epitome of Transformational Leader and Corporate Governance and urged him to maintain the standard experienced and enjoyed now in the company.
In his response, Dr. Benson thanked the body for their gesture and assured them that he will continue to ensure that the environment will always be comfortable for employees of the Organization to perform their functions diligently.
In another development, Dr. Benson received the winner of the just concluded Miss Hamilton Nigeria 2022, Edose Eromosele, a graduate trainee, currently in the Company’s employment.
Edose Eromosele, the winner of the pageant, eulogized Dr. Benson and acknowledged that she has been highly influenced and guided by the company’s core values remodelled by Dr. Benson when he assumed office.
She said the elements of the core values motivated and ignited her passion to contest the Beauty Pageant. She expressed gratitude to Dr. Benson for his guidance and requested opportunities to collaborate with the company as a brand ambassador and in community engagement activities.
In response, Dr. Benson showered encomiums on the Beauty Queen and noted that he is a proponent of work-life balance, so long as it does not affect employees’ performance of their responsibilities.
He encouraged the Beauty Queen to promote the company positively during her reign and join the Corporate Communications Department where she truly fits as a brand ambassador to fully explore her interest in community relations. Dr. Benson noted “Times without number, I have emphasized that staff should live the true meaning of the Company’s core values even in their private lives”
