The Urhobo Consultative Forum (UCF), also known as the Urhobo Arise Group, has announced a free medical outreach in collaboration with the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) Worldwide. The outreach will take place on Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th of December 2024, at the UPU House in Uwviamuge, Ughelli, Delta State, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.
In a press release signed by UCF Chairman, Mr. Abraham Ogbodo, and Secretary, Dr. Benson Uwheru, the group emphasized the importance of community health in achieving sustainable development. “Good health is foundational to a thriving community,” the statement read, as the forum prepares to provide critical healthcare services to the Urhobo people.
The Urhobo Arise Group, a network of Urhobo intellectuals and professionals, has been dedicated to promoting socio-economic development through its A.R.I.S.E. Agenda. This initiative focuses on alleviating poverty, revitalizing culture, promoting industrialization, enhancing security, and advancing education in Urhobo land. The medical outreach is seen as a crucial step in addressing the health needs of the community.
UCF has a strong track record of supporting Urhobo communities, including its previous intervention for internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Okuama, Ughelli South LGA. The group provided food, solidarity messages, and erected a support board for the IDPs during a recent crisis.
The UCF hopes to deepen its collaboration with UPU and other Urhobo associations in the lead-up to the UPU Annual Convention, as they work toward fostering unity and development for the Urhobo Nation. The outreach is expected to serve many in need, with the goal of encouraging a culture of wellness and community resilience.
