The Michael and Cecilia Ibru University in Nigeria has achieved a major milestone as the National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted full accreditation status to all the programmes presented by the university for the first time. In a letter sent to the university’s proprietors, the NUC confirmed that all the five programmes submitted during the accreditation evaluation exercise in November/December were successful.
The report revealed that the university’s programmes in Public Administration, Law, Software Engineering, Mass Communication, and Political Science had all obtained full accreditation, along with excellent results. This is the second time that the university has achieved full accreditation, with the first being in 2019, where all nine of its mature academic programmes were approved by the NUC.
The university has also been recognized for its achievements in the 2021 ranking of Nigerian universities by the National University Commission, where it was ranked second among privately-held institutions in the South-South geopolitical zone. Additionally, the university placed third in efficiency, capital H-index, and the knowledge economy.
The approval for full accreditation status is valid for five years, according to the letter from the NUC, which was signed by Arc. S.S. Ikani, Deputy Director of Programme Accreditation. The university’s other programmes had already received full accreditation from the NUC and relevant professional bodies.
