PHED’s MD/CEO, Dr Benson Uwheru, officially kicked off the World Day for Safety and Health 2023

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED), Dr Benson Uwheru, flagged off the World Day for Safety and Health 2023 at the company’s corporate headquarters on Friday, April 28, 2023. This day is annually celebrated to promote safety and health at work, and this year’s theme is “A safe and healthy working environment as a fundamental principle and right at work”.

During the flag-off ceremony, Dr Benson emphasized the importance of safety consciousness, especially given the nature of the company’s business. He also reaffirmed the management’s commitment to Health and Safety issues.

Dr Benson stressed the need for personal health and lifestyle as a critical aspect of maintaining good health. He also encouraged staff members to reduce waste to promote the environment. Additionally, he emphasized the importance of a better working environment, where the ideology of “a better me, better you and better us” plays a vital role.

The event was not all about speeches, as it featured a fitness test where the MD, CFO, CTO, and other staff participated in a 50 number jumping jack activity. Each participant was rewarded with a token of N10,000 by the MD/CEO as a sign of appreciation for their efforts.

Finally, the MD encouraged all staff to actively participate in the week-long event scheduled to run from April 28th to May 5th, 2023. The event has an array of activities, including award presentations, a gala night, indoor games, and a roadshow, amongst others.
